As any public – health professional knows, an epidemic is worthy of A. Conan Doyle or P.D. James. And that certainly appeared to be the case with AIDS. According to conventional wisdom, the AIDS virus started to spread in the United States around the late 70’s. but recently became apparent that a 15 year – old Missouri boy had probably died of the disease as early as 1969, years before anyone had defected an outbreak and even given AIDS its name.
